Stupid Move Again

kuya_noynoy

Screenshot from my Facebook last May 7, 2010, The caption is added by the author.

So Noynoy made another stupid move last week. When will he ever learn?

ab-july-26-sona-ng-bayan

It isn't enough for us to wait for Noynoy to tell what he plans to do for us. We should let him know what WE want him to do for us. Whether you voted for him or not, he is now our president and we should assert to him what the real needs of the people are.

Ngunit ang pagkilos sa Lunes ay parang isang linya sa lumang awit: "..it's now or never."

2. Backed by no one but the youth.

3. Progressive, militant, nationalistic and pro-people in words and actions.

Anti-torture Act (RA 9745)
Rent Control Act of 2009 (RA 9635)
Tax Relief for Minimum Wage Earners Act of 2008 (RA 9504)
Public Attorney's Office Act of 2006 (RA 9406)
Abolition of Death Penalty (RA 9346)
Overseas Absentee Voting Act of 2003 (RA 9189)
Philippine Nursing Act of 2002 (RA 9173)
Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 (RA 9208)
Anti-Violence in Women and Children Act (RA 9262)
Magna Carta for Women (RA 9710)

Why I Will NOT VOTE for NOYNOY

Some people are quite crazy about NoyNoy these days. No, not crazy. Insane would be a much better word. Sa Filipino, mga baliw. They've completely lost their minds attacking people who goes against their belief that their Benigno "NoyNoy" Simeon Aquino III should be the president of this country. Attacks aimed at destroying the credibility of that person. Lately, we have heard how Pia Magalona had been harrassed by Noynoy fans in her blog because she supports Richard Gordon.

What's even worse is that if his fans talk about why they will vote for Noynoy, they cannot give out a clear answer (see samples here: 1, 2, 3). They are instead busy on lambasting his opponents and giving out crazy reasons on why they won't vote for them.

Even their candidate is out of his mind. Tsk. Could someone close to him slap his face so he could wake up in his own world?

These things alone give me enough reasons not to vote for him. But I'm going to give you five more reasons why I'm not voting for Benigno "NoyNoy" Simeon Aquino III so just maybe, ponder upon your choice of president.

hindi_lahat_ng_nakadilaw

1. Noynoy is not Ninoy or Cory for that matter.

For the first time in our history (or maybe not), we're going to elect someone as president just because his mama and papa are Ninoy and Cory Aquino. Ok these two people are great. I look up to them as my heroes. But please, can we have better reasons why we should vote Noynoy? Can it be because his sister is a 'great' game show host?

People keep on telling us that because he has good parents, he must be good too. I can be somehow sure that Noynoy is a good son to his father and mother. But if he had been able to live up to the example of his parents, that would be a big question.

If he is really a good son, then he should have espoused the ideals of his parents. He should have been very active in Congress and Senate. He should have authored bills that would benefit the people. He should have called for justice and condemned every single act of repression committed by the State because how his father suffered in prison is one glaring example of how ruthless Martial Law is and how can the State abuse its power to silence dissidents.

But he's not. He's just plain and simple using the legacy of his parents. Ibang level ng gamitan 'to.

Yes, we cannot choose our parents. But just because his parents are Ninoy and Cory, we should vote for him? Hell no. It's just plain 'historical accident.'

2. Noynoy is craving for power.

This is just so disgusting. Some portray him as humble and sincere because he is a reluctant presidential candidate. WTF. The presidency is not for those who are reluctant, it is for those who knows the implications of being a president and what can be done from that office.

But this had only been quite true from the start because I doubt if he was really sincere then in 'imitating' what his mother done before she accepted the call to run. Right now, we see him issue statements like if he doesn't win, he shall call for People Power. Yes he clarified that it is only if he had been cheated but as we all know, politicians in this country do not accept defeat. It's always either you win or you had been cheated. This kind of statements scares the hell out of me because he thinks that he should be president at all costs.

And please, Noynoy or anyone else for that matter does not hold the franchise for People Power. It belongs to the people. If Noynoy thinks that real People Power that would come from 38% of Filipinos who supports him. Hell no! He should remember that 62% does not like him.

3. Noynoy is not faultless, incorrupt or a 'clean politician as others would like to portray him.

His hands are bloodied by the victims of the Hacienda Luisita Massacre. Most people often see this as a black propaganda aimed at derailing Noynoy's 'victory' on May 10. It is not. But if it is all about Villar's C5 controversy and landgrabbing accusations, these are legitimate issues that Villar should answer. Why the double standard?

The Hacienda Luisita Massacre is one glaring example on how majority of our farmers are still fighting to get their piece of land from landlords such as the Cojuangcos. I can't believe how Noynoy answered this before. He said that he doesn't own much of the HLI so why should he care? Then, he went on to blame that some of these farmers are squatters and that militant groups had meddled in the issue. Then he issued a recent statement that the lands would be given out the farmers by 2014. All of which are only aimed to veer away public scrutiny from what really happened back then.

Aside from that, can his supporters ask Noynoy or anyone from his campaign team from where or whom do they get their campaign ads? They had been attacking Villar on using billions of pesos on his campaign but we are quite sure that its his own money and the hell I care if he spends them all. But how about Noynoy? Where does he gets all this money to air his commercials everyday?

4. Noynoy is plain incompetent.

Yeah his name was not involved in any corruption scandal during his term as a congressman and senator. I'll give it to Noynoy but oh my, twelve years as a lawmaker (nine as a Congressman and three as a Senator) and he hasn't passed or authored any major bill that would benefit the Filipino people? Houston, I think we have a problem.

Try to look at it this way: sinuwelduhan natin ang isang Congressman na hindi naman ginagawa ang kanyang pangunahing trabaho - gumawa ng batas. We've wasted our precious taxpayers' money for nothing. Wala itong pinagkaiba sa mga nangungurakot. Isn't this also a form of corruption? Getting paid for something that you don't do?

If he had not been able to perform his duties well as a lawmaker, can we expect him to do better if he's a President? I guess no. Here's an excerpt from an article published just last April 30 on the NoyPi blog:

If and when he becomes President, Noynoy can hire persons who are competent and with high standard of morality and unquestionable integrity to serve as members of his Cabinet. This will complement any deficiency in his executive ability or experiences.

O di ba, umamin din sila. :)

Doing nothing does not amount to doing something good.

5. Noynoy is clueless about the presidency.

This early, all of his statements or replies to issues are coming from his spokespersons and minions. Does this ring a bell? Very much Gloria Arroyo. He rarely answers questions himself. Unlike other candidates who talk to the media themselves most of the time. What does it tell us? If he's not even prepared to face the media, then how will he face criticisms once he become president? Maybe, he'll heed the advice of Risa Hontiveros.

Aside from that, he's clueless about almost everything. He doesn't know why the HL issue is related to him? (Or maybe he's just being plain stupid about this.) He does not know that by opening up our country more to foreign investors would only kill our local industries and make us dependent on them. He does not know that the main reason why a lot are jobless is not only because of job scarcity but because of repressive state policies like that one which allow companies to hire employees on a contractual basis. He does not understand that land reform is a central issue that needs to be addressed not by dull promises but by concrete plans and actions that would be in favor of the farmers. He does not understand.

Pero do we expect him to understand these things? No. Because the fact the he's an Economics graduate but does not even have a comprehensive, clear and concret platform on that issue, that alone makes him really clueless.

So who will I vote for President if I don't want NoyNoy, Villar, Erap and Gibo? Right now, I'm planning to skip my vote for the presidency but just so I can express my protest against these irrational people who will vote for Noynoy, I'm takng my pick among those who are at the bottom of the surveys. After all, these people are also legitmate choices. They even present a much better platform than this Hepa-guy. I won't settle for anything less.

If you want to see principled leaders, performs their duties as lawmakers and is consistent in its fight for the people in Congress, you need to know why you should vote for KABATAAN PARTYLIST.

In the mean time, let me share with you some people who will not vote for Noynoy too. No big fan of their websites but I agree with their points. Some of which are written long ago, after he announced his candidacy:

A Noynoy Aquino administration could be the modern-day version of the Marcos regime!

Currently out of my list for presidentiables are Noynoy, Villar, Erap and Gibo.

Hacienda Luisita Massacre

Did it really happened? Or is it another ploy to discredit Noynoy Aquino who had been in recent weeks consistently topping all survey charts for the presidentiables? Is there a truth in what the militant groups are blabbering these past few days? Well, it did really happened. If you want to know how everything else happened 5 years ago, here is a documentary made a year after the Hacienda Luisita Massacre happened.

What you saw is just the first of four parts, you may see the remaining parts on YouTube by searching 'Sa Ngalan ng Tubo' to know how the strike by the workers of Hacienda Luisita ended.

We have heard what Nonoy Aquino stated regarding Hacienda Luisita: they will sell off their shares because after all they're not earning much from it. But Mr. Aquino, why not pressure the other owners to give up their hold on that estate and distribute it to the farmers who have tilled that land for many decades? After all, it should have been done a long time ago since the CARP was passed under the administration of your mother which was then considered as the centerpiece program of her administration.

Now, you're telling everyone else that it might not be the best solution (redistributing the land) since the ratio of farmers to the size of the land is disproportionate. But Mr Aquino, this would not have happened if your family (the Cojuangcos) will not intend to convert the land into 'commerical, industrial, residential and recreational parks.' From the very beginnning, you don't have any plans to give up the land but to displace the farmers one by one while you gain more profits from the new land use plan that your family had been planning ever since.

What the farmers had been asking from your family ever since is just to give the land that was rightfully theirs. It is no longer a question whether the ones claiming are legitimate residents of Tarlac or workers of the hacienda but it is a question of why can't you simply give up Hacienda Luisita for these farmers who had been tilling the land for you so that you may earn.

If you did nothing to resolve this issue once and for all, I guess it depicts what kind of president you will be once elected. By the way, I'm no supporter of any presidential candidate - whether it Villar, Estrada or Teodoro. In fact I don't want to see any of these three people to end up winning the elections. Actually, I had been toying with the thought that it could be you whom I will support but upon much deeper discernment and the way things are going, it seems to me that you've got no difference with them.

Yes, your family did not ordered these farmers to be gunned down to death which led to Hacienda Luisita Massacre - one of the most brutal crimes committed against farmers who never asked for anything else but to give the land that was rightfully theirs. But in the midst of what was happening then, your family did nothing but to even blame the militants for instigating the farmers to go on strike. Your family did not even tried to talk with those in the picket line. Your family chose to ignore them.

Well, it is not too late to do something about it, Mr. Noynoy Aquino. Show everyone else that you are indeed a beacon of hope and change in this wrecked land - not a son who had just been passed on the legacy of his parents. It is about time to make a stand on issues, to make a stand if you are indeed for the Filipino people.

Miles of Regress

If you have read the major broadsheets last Monday, I'm very much sure that you've come across an ad by our 'dear President Arroyo' that enlists all, if not some, of the benefits that we had gained from all of her trips in the past eight years of presidency. Lately, her foreign trips are being criticized by the opposition because it cost us more than 800 million pesos to fund her trips. Maybe, that's the reason behind the publication of this ad - paid by taxpayer's money.

All in all, the ad contains "14 benefits" that we have gained for the following: job generation, infrastructure development, protecting Filipino concerns, energy cooperation and agricultural development.

At a first glance, you would be somehow quite impressed because our 'dear' president had been able to get this and that. Although for me, ads like this does not impress me anymore - especially if this was paid using our money.

Anyway, the question is: Did we really get something substantial from her trips that had benefited all of us - especially those who need it most?

---

Some of the benefits listed are quite specific: $2.3 billion investment and job opportunities from South Korea, $2 billion investment from China, etc. But did those investments have actually flowed into the Philippines? Maybe not.

Let us take a look at 'Chinese investments.'

The President first went to China in 2004. If I remember it right, China had promised her more than $1 billion in investment for our country. But according to my little research, China had never been a 'top source of foreign direct investments (FDI)' for our country considering the number of 'infrastructure projects' that they are supposed to finance. Not even in a single quarter in the succeeding years (2005-2008) that they have been in the top spot. In fact, Japan is consistently our major source of FDI from 2004 till 2008. Taiwan would even sometimes land on the second spot as a top source of FDI for our country. But China, it never even registered a blip on our radar screens.

If you have doubts on my claim well you may check out the facts here at the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) website.

---

But what was really quite noticeable about the 'benefits' listed is that some of them are not concrete benefits that would readily benefit us. For example, we have this 'potential agreement' with Russia on energy, defense, etc. By definition, it is just a likely event but there is nothing definite yet and could actually not happen in the future. Another one are the MOUs with Brazil and Bahrain; so now that we have 'understood' each other, what happens next? Do these 'promises, understandings and agreements' materialize for our benefit?

Or our dear President is very busy selling off our country piece by piece. I just hope that it won't be the case.

---

It is really disgusting to know that in times like this, wherein the government's budget deficit is estimated to be at record high this year - a whooping 257 billion pesos - this government can still afford to place ads in major broadsheets, TV and radio. Ads worth millions of pesos funded by taxpayers' money that won't even feed a single hungry mouth in the slums.

Ads that tries to makes us look stupid not to know that such claims in their ads are just part of their fantasy.

---

What also pisses me off is the fact that this government is trying to look like a slut (I apologize for my term) by begging off for scraps from wealthier nations rather than supporting and developing our own industries. For example, this government would rather have our agricultural sector be developed by Saudi Arabia! What could a country that is almost a hundred percent desert can do to 'develop' our rich agricultural resources? Does this also mean that once they had develop this land, they now own it?

Maybe that's why her morons in Congress are pushing for ChaCha.

Extend her term and sell our country piece by piece and pocket billions of pesos - if not dollars - from it.

---

Take a look at the annoying ad below.

Have you noticed how the ad was filled with pictures of our 'dear President' handshaking with the leaders of the countries she had visited? So what is its significance? Maybe it could be much effective tool to deceive us if they had instead placed pictures of the projects that had been ongoing or completed because of her trips.

But maybe, they don't have anything to show because none had really materialized.

They should except that a lot would beat their asses off after the noon of June 30, 2010.

I can't wait.

Giyera: Walang Kwenta Talaga

Una ay ang World War I at II.

Hanggang kailan tayo magpapagamit? Hanggang kailan tayo magbubulag-bulagan?

"Ladies and gentlemen.. you have just heard the speech of our future president.."

For the pers taym sa UP, me tumawag sa akin na ganun. Me kasama pa pala siya nun.

Walang kokontra.

The Congress Visit

Wow..

Pupunta tayo ng Batasan..

Exciting..

Sabi nila they have been doing this annually. Then they told us that Cong. Francis Escudero was an alumni of their org which is APSM (Association of Political Science Majors.) Then I thought, finally.. I would get to meet one of my fave politicians and I think one of the best we have. So they've told us that we are going to visit him. Hindi na nila sinabi ang ibang details. Surprise daw.. and I was surprised.

Finally, yesterday.. the long wait is over. August 9, 2006. At exactly 3:53 P.M., I finally stepped into the North Wing of the Batasan Complex. Pero medyo disappointed ako. Kasi, as we all know, busy si Cong. Escudero sa impeachment and at that very moment nandun siya sa Plenary Hall, which we have also visited, at nakikipagdebate.

Instead, we met Cong. Christian Seneres of Buhay party list. And as his surname says, he is the son of the very controversial Ambassador Roy Seneres. Anyway according to his staff, to date he is the youngest congressman to be in position since he became one in 2001, beating the record of Ninoy Aquino.

Then we had a little talk about so many things. The goals of their party and what had they been doing lately. I was sitted right infront of him and I felt somewhat nervous, but the color of the room made me ease a little. It was maroon and green, the colors of UP, and so he said that all of his staff are UP grads and the one who decorated his office was from UP.

Anyway, it was also sad that last year he was one of those who signed for the impeachment but this year he didn't. His reason was its a total waste of time. He said that there are so many bills that needs to be passed. He is in favor of a unicameral system but not for federalism.

Anyway again as he talk, we were given free Lipton Green Tea. Hehe..

After that we went to the musuem at the basement of the Congress. The good congressman himself toured us around and told all about the history of Congress, how we came to have 2 chambers, the feud between Quezon and Osmena, the Batasang Pambansa, and the 1986 ConCom, the symbols used and the proper decorum when inside the Plenary Hall.

So after that, we went to the Plenary Hall. Wow, its the first time that I am going to this place and watch those congressmen 'doing their work.' Contrary to what we see on the television, it was not that big. I guess its just the angle of the camera that makes it big. And for those who study in UP, the UP Theater is quite bigger than the Plenary Hall. Some of us were not allowed to enter because slippers and shorts are not allowed. Luckily, I was the one of those who entered. And so we got to seat on the front row. Much close to the comittee hearings going on down there. Oh, i forgot to mention that we've seen congressman Noynoy Aquino and Imee Marcos.

Way Kurat Zamora, siyempre Si Cong. Escudero, Remulla, Datumanong at Lagman.

Anyway we stayed there for 20 minutes and just watched.
